For Best Results

If you intend to have your teeth whitened for a brighter whiter smile then you should speak to your dentist beforehand things can go wrong with the tooth whitening process.

Steps to take for best results

Dentist-it is advised that we visit the dentist at least twice a year, cleaning your teeth on a regular basis is great for oral hygiene, it helps to prevent yellowing of the teeth and removes stains and plaque. If you decide you want a whiter brighter smile then you should go to your dentist and have him clean your teeth prior to the whitening process.

For best results you should get your dentist to whiten your teeth the gel the dentist would use has a stronger peroxide level then those bought from the chemist giving you a whiter result. If you don’t have your teeth professionally cleaned beforehand you will end up with different shades of teeth, this is because stains and plaque will be affected rather than the tooth so once they are removed you would see a difference in color.

Speak to your dentist if you have veneers crowns and fillings as the whitening won’t affect them in any way. Those of you who have sensitive gums or gum disease should not have your teeth whitened.

Home kits have been known to go wrong, you may think the results aren’t that good so leave the gel on longer than you should and this will cause the teeth to become to white if you aren’t careful. It is also advised that you don’t repeat the whitening process too often as it can damage your teeth.

You should read instructions for the tooth whitening gel very carefully to prevent any mistakes being made. Once the whitening has been done it can’t be reversed. Get advice about whitening your teeth as not all teeth will benefit from being whitened.

Teeth whitening is classed as cosmetic so if you get your dentist to do be prepared to pay. Medical insurance companies don’t cover cosmetic work.

If you speak to your dentist he may offer you other options especially if your teeth won’t benefit from using a peroxide type gel. You should take really good care of your teeth because it is the first thing many people notice when they look and speak to you.

Yellowing will occur much quicker on people’s teeth if they smoke or drink such things like coffee so if you get your teeth whitened then you will have to have touchups. So bear all of the above in mind before you go ahead and get your teeth whitened. For best results you should get it get it done by your dentist.
