As with many medications and things they do come with side effects. Tooth whitening is no different it can cause unwanted side effects but not everyone will suffer.
Is tooth whitening worth it?
Gums-the active ingredient in ooh whitening gel is peroxide, if you have ever had your hair bleached you will know this can cause a burning sensation on the head. Peroxide can also cause gum irritation when gums are saw I know for a fact it can be quite painful. So this is the main side affect of tooth whitening.
Sensitive teeth- when whitening your teeth you can make sensitive teeth feel that bit more sensitive. Sensitive teeth do hurt especially when we eat things like ice cream. So do be careful when whitening your teeth.
Dentist- it is a well known fact that getting your teeth whitened at the dentist will give you better results than using a tooth whitening kit at home. This is because they use a larger amount of the active ingredient. Because their gel has a stronger active ingredient it is more likely to cause gum irritation.
It is important to think carefully before having your teeth whitened these above side effects can be quite painful and irritant. If you are worried about this then you should get expert advice from your dentist. If you suspect you already have gum problems this could be a sign or some oral problems, if you can’t whiten your teeth because of irritation your dentist may offer you a tooth polishing session, this makes them a little whiter but if you don’t have insurance it will cost you.
Taking care of your teeth is extremely important your smile is often the first thing a person will notice. To prevent yellowing of the teeth you should brush at least twice a day and use a good mouth wash. Yellowing of the teeth is usually caused by smoking and drinking coffee, plus eating acidic food can thin the tooth enamel and this make the teeth sensitive. So to avoid this you should be brushing your teeth at least twice daily. Same goes for your children.
Your teeth have a good chance of becoming a little whiter than before but you must think is it worth it if it’s going to cause gum problems. Most likely not because the after affects can stay or go so you could suffer with sensitive gums for quite some time after the whitening process. Again your dentist would advise you what the best option would be for your personal teeth care. Just because your friends had a great experience doesn’t mean you will, so be careful what you put in your mouth.
