Will Whitening Your Teeth Benefit You?

Teeth whitening has become a popular trend but there are some types of teeth that it will not have any effect on. You must visit your dentist before hand in order to get proper advice about your teeth.

How whitening affects different types of teeth.

A different color of teeth - not one person is perfect and not one person is the same and that includes teeth. Some of us have good white teeth, off white teeth, yellow teeth and graying teeth. Be warned tooth whitening may not work on all of those teeth types.

White teeth - if you already have white teeth there may be no need for you to whiten them. If you do it is likely they will go 1-2 shades lighter.

Off white teeth - usually come before yellowing again whitening should make the teeth 2-3 shades whiter.

Yellow teeth - depending on how badly the yellowing is will often depend how much of a difference the whitening procedure will work. Many people said they had great results and their teeth were a lot whiter and brighter. Whitening is mainly used on yellowing teeth.

Graying teeth - is not often caused by staining and build up but other oral problems cause this. Dentists know for a fact that whitening gel will have very little or no affect on the teeth what so ever. It is important you know this because if you try it and see no results you may repeat it again and again. Continuously repeating this can cause damage to teeth. Your dentist will advise on the best option for you if you have graying teeth. This will help prevent damage to your teeth.

It is a well known fact that things like acidic foods and drinks can damage teeth enamel, this can then lead to sensitive teeth and thinning of the tooth enamel.  That is why tooth whitening should be done cautiously. Continuing to put chemicals on many things will have damaging effects. By all means get your teeth to that natural bright white shade but do so by following instructions carefully and don’t over use  whitening .

A dentist will always correctly advise on what you should do to keep your teeth in great condition so if he advises you against whitening then there will be a good reason. The whitening procedure can go wrong and once the damage is done there is no going back.

Some people have left the whitening gel on a little too long which will cause the teeth to be super bright white; this can look a little odd. That’s why it is recommended that you get your dentist to whiten your teeth rather than do it your self.
