Is Bleaching The Best Method To Whiten Your Teeth At Home

The most common cosmetic service provided by dentists in America is Teeth whitening and that could be supported by the massive increase in sales turnover over the period of time. Whitening your teeth can be achieved by various different methods, you could either go to your dentist or try different over the counter products.

How do bleach based whitening products work?

All beach-based whitening products generally have the same goal, they work by penetrating deep you’re your tooth enamel to clear up the stains. Tooth enamel is absorbent and thus brushing doesn’t really work that effectively, and that is why bleach based products are so widely used.

What bleach-based products actually do is that they penetrate deep in your tooth’s enamel and set of an oxidizing process which helps to break up the stain compounds which lets you keep bright white teeth. However this may sound really simple but there are various products on the market that promise the same thing, but sadly fail to deliver.

Different Types of Bleach Based Products

The first product that is quite widely used is whitening toothpaste. But however as toothpaste is not exposed to your teeth for a considerable amount of time there is really just a slight improvement as they are not able to penetrate deep enough. Even though some toothpaste contain strong chemicals and promise to work quickly, they instead end up making your teeth sensitive as they etch away the enamel.

Teeth Whitening Strip Another product used by people is a whitening strip, these are flexible and thin pieces of plastic which are coated with a thin firlm of hydrogen-peroxide bleach. They are usually worn for 30 minutes, twice in a day and for a period of two weeks. They do generally work but as they cant get into all the spaces between the teeth the result rarely meets the expectations.

Getting more serious, there is another procedure that can be done either by you or by your dentist; this involves placing a tray in your mouth that is injected using a bleaching solution.  Various ‘boil and bite’ over the counter trays are available and are ready to use after buying them. However the common problem faced in this type of procedure is that it will not fit properly which can result in leakages or inconsistent results. Leakages can cause damage to your gums.

To get rid of this problem you can use custom-fitting trays which are available at your dentist and tend to provide fewer amounts of leakages.

Other types of professional teeth whitening include bonding or porcelain veneers. Bonding would be done at the doctor’s office and would usually cost around $300-$700 per tooth Veneers requires at-least a couple of visits to the dentist and would cost $700-$1200 per tooth.
