Different Teeth Whitening Methods:
- In Office Bleaching
This method requires visiting your doctor at-least twice. During the procedure the dentist applies protective gel to the lips and to your gum in order to protect them from the bleaching solution which is applied to whiten your teeth. Doctors also use lasers at times in order to improve the reaction of the gel; the effects of this type of procedure usually last for a long period of time.
- Home Bleaching
This is also a quite common method used to whiten your teeth. Different kits are prescribed by the dentist and can also be purchased OTC. These kits contain a solution usually containing of hydrogen peroxide that is applied to the teeth along with a mouth guard. The effect of teeth whitening would vary with the amount of times used and the amount of time spent on the procedure.
Benefits and Limitations of These Methods
There are also certain pros and cons of using such hot whitening products, the major advantage is that they are generally much quicker when in compared with other methods and are quite useful in removing darker stains. However the major disadvantage is that excessive usage of such procedures can leave behind teeth sensitivity, which can damage the nerves of your teeth permanently. The chemicals which are used in these procedures are generally very strong and if they touch the gums by mistake, they will give the patient a burn.
How Do These Products Work?
The equipment which is found inside these kits usually contain 3 Percent hydrogen peroxide or 10 percent carbamide peroxide. The light or heat then causes them to break into oxygen molecules once they are applied. After that the molecules enter the pores of enamel and remove the stains from the teeth. Stains of yellowish color or in a brownish shade are much easier to remove using teeth whitening kits.
Results can be seen quickly or can take up to a week, this would depend upon the type of solution used and also the amount of time that it has been applied for. You would be able to see perfect teeth whitening after using these products for a period of month and the results last up to 3 years. The lasting however depends greatly on personal habits.
