There are basically two ways by which a person can get their teeth whitened, either by using home kits or by going to a professional such as your dentist. Quite a few companies who manufacture professional teeth whitening systems also produce OTC products which are used by people who would like to have whiter and brighter teeth without having to visit the dentist.
A Common Claim Made My OTC products
It is quite common for Over the Counter Products to claim that using OTC products will give you the same result when compared to visiting a professional. This statement would seem true but is quite misleading. The basic idea of their statement is that Over-the-counter products provide the same results but generally take more time as they use a lower concentration of bleach and the only reason why Professional treatments provide a quicker whitening is because they use a more concentrated solution of bleach and claim that this is the only different of applying OTC products every night to get a result and noticing the difference in your teeth by visiting the doctor even just once.
This might be true but however this is not completely true. Dentists use a solution which contains a higher percentage of bleach, along with a laser to whiten the tooth. This applies a light on the teeth and activates the bleach in the solution to give much whiter teeth.
Laser teeth whitening is really effective because the patient for a little more amount of money can walk out of the clinic within a couple of hours with a completely different and brighter smile.
There are various other reasons why people would prefer Professional teeth whitening over OTC products.
• OTC products that don’t come with a tray usually would have inconsistent results and the ones that wouldn’t meet your expectations. Your tongue could clean away some of the mixtures leaving some areas left untreated or some of the solution can even be diluted by your saliva.
• Tooth enamel can be removed by various different over-the-counter products that contain glycerin.
• Various OTC systems use “whitening strips”. These would be good in making the front of your teeth bright but however wouldn’t work well on cleaning the spaces and cracks between your teeth. The difference between the white sparkling tooth and the dark grooves between the teeth can make people think that you have terrible cavities.
If you would like to improve the color of front of your teeth by just a mere shade, than choosing OTC products would be the right thing. However if you’d like to have a long lasting bright smile, going to professional dentists would be the only option.
